| NCCAOM RECERTIFICATION Click here for approved courses We will issue a certificate the same day we receive your answers. This can be duplicated to send in for your recertification. With the exception of CA and FL most states use NCCAOM certification for acupuncture continuing education credit. Please check with your licensing board if you are uncertain what the requirements are. Click here for a state licensing table from NCCAOM You need to complete 60 professional development activity points (PDA's) every four years. Professional Development Activity (PDA) is a Continuing Education Unit (CEU). 1 hour of Instruction = 1 PDA Point The NCCAOM allows for all of the required credits (PDA points) to be completed online or as distance learning. All Diplomates are required to document a total of 60 PDA points in their four- year recertification cycle. The 60 PDA points are divided into two sections: 1) Competency Maintenance, and 2) Professional Development Activities. Competency Maintenance 30 PDA Points — Maintaining core competencies. A minimum of 30 points up to a maximum of 60 points must be completed and documented in continuing education or school coursework within the areas listed below. Continuing education hours may be used alone or in combination with an activity to complete the required 60 PDA points. Documentation includes a copy of the certificate of participation, school transcript, or letter of verification, on letterhead, from the sponsoring organization. Core Knowledge, Skills and Abilities— A minimum of 15 PDA points must be in biomedicine and/or one of the five branches of Oriental medicine (e.g., acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Chinese dietary therapy, Qigong, Asian bodywork therapy). Safety and/or Ethics — 4 PDA points (e.g., herbal safety, universal precautions, ethics and liability, public health reporting requirement, etc.) Adjunct Therapies — 11 PDA points that directly enhance a Diplomate’s knowledge or practice in Oriental medicine (e.g., practice management, adjunctive therapies, patient education, and disaster relief training, etc.). CPR Certification is now a requirement for NCCAOM recertification. The CPR certification must have been issued within the four-year recertification cycle and cannot be applied toward the safety requirement under Competency Maintenance. They will, however, apply to your total credits. Practice Enhancement: A maximum of 6 PDA points may be earned in subjects outside of the area of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. You may also earn PDA's from research, publications, teaching, lecturing, clinical experience or supervision. This must be documented, so please see http://www.nccaom.org/diplomates/recertification for specifics. |
